BEFORE YOU PADDLE OUT · 3 MIN READ

Your first surf lesson, without the guesswork

You don’t need to arrive knowing how to surf. A little preparation helps you spend more of the day enjoying it.

Beginner surfers practising with their boards on the sand

Start with an honest conversation

Tell us if you have never surfed, how comfortable you feel in the water and what you would like to work on. Beginner lessons cover the foundations: awareness of the ocean, paddling, getting to your feet and finding your position.

Pack light

Bring swimwear, sunscreen and a towel. The published lesson offering includes a surfboard and lycra, plus a beach bed and a fresh coconut after the session. If you have particular equipment needs, check with us before you arrive.

Leave room for the ocean

Lesson plans depend on conditions. Agree your meeting time and location directly with the school, and stay flexible if the ocean changes. Choose a 60- or 90-minute session when you enquire.

Send the useful details

Your preferred date, number of people and surfing experience are a good starting point. If a child will be joining, include their age and comfort in the water so the team can advise.

Based on the school’s published information, checked 28 October 2026. Confirm arrangements with Home Waves before booking.
